Popcorn Balls for the Holidays
Too sweet and delicious to hang on a tree
Some popcorn balls are for sitting on a Christmas tree (or Hanukkah bush!), aging ungracefully. These popcorn balls are for eating. Yes, they will look pretty as holiday decorations. But you will have a hard time resisting their sweet, sticky allure.
Our three variations all start with the basic recipe and then go in different directions—they’re sweet-hot, sweet-savory, and sweet-noggy. We want you to make them, and enjoy them. But maybe you’d do things differently. Take our basic recipe and dress it up—what flavors do you want from a popcorn ball? And not just flavors: We expect to see candy mix-ins, a Glee-themed popcorn ball diorama, a massive Guinness World Records–worthy ball, the face of the Virgin Mary, or even more far-fetched adaptations.
Take a photograph of your customized version and send it to popcornballscontest@chow.com. We’ll feature the best ones in a photo gallery.

Screw brownies! These delights are the new bases of this year's holiday gift baskets.
Made the eggnog, which I found to be absolutely yumm. Bored teen who was handing out Halloween treats disagreed, so I made a batch of cocoa-cayenne for him and friends. A big hit.
You're right, they're so pretty: I'm going to wrap individually in colored cellophane or plastic wrap to make faux ornaments. Psyched to have this year's innovation. THANKS
Popcorn balls! Oh how I remember looking forward to my Aunt's popcorn balls in an array in colors, as a kid. This is great.
