<h1>2009 Presidential Inauguration Menu</h1>
<h3>Celebrate with food inspired by Barack Obama&#8217;s favorites</h3>

<p class="intro"><span style="color:#990000">Warning:</span> This is a partisan menu. We don&#8217;t advocate celebrating every inauguration. But on this January 20, do it. After studying up on reports of Barack Obama&#8217;s likes and dislikes, and spending way too much time</p>

<div id="sidebar_content">

<ul id="side_nav" style="margin-bottom:.5em">
    <li class="nav_hd"><span class="caps">MENU</span></li>

    <li><a href="http://www.chow.com/recipes/11373">Slushy Blended Margarita</a></li>
    <li><a href="http://www.chow.com/recipes/11372">Chili con Carne</a></li>
    <li><a href="http://www.chow.com/recipes/10722">Cheddar Biscuits</a></li>
    <li><a href="http://www.chow.com/recipes/11155">Roasted Delicata Squash Salad</a></li>
    <li class="none"><a href="http://www.chow.com/recipes/11128">Pumpkin Pie with Spiced Crust</a></li>
</ul>

</div>

<p class="intro" style="float:left;width:20em;margin-top:0;">watching videos on YouTube of the president-elect eating (his press people never responded to our queries), we pulled together the following menu. From the looks of it, the man&#8217;s not afraid to eat. And if this isn&#8217;t your idea of a celebration, the menu&#8217;s just as good on January 21. (Chowhounds <a href="http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/585521">have their own ideas about what to serve</a>.)</p>

<a href="http://www.chow.com/recipes/11373">» Slushy Blended Margarita</a></p>
<p class="desc">The nuts and margarita are a nod to the cuisine of Rick Bayless, chef-founder of <a href="http://www.chow.com/places/25807">Topolobampo</a>, a Chicago restaurant that&#8217;s one of the Obamas&#8217; favorites. NPR did a good <a href="http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=95358426" target="blank">segment with Bayless</a> back in October about cooking for the soon-to-be first family.</p>

	<p><a href="http://www.chow.com/recipes/11372"><img src="/assets/2008/12/inline3_ChiliconCarne.jpg" alt="" /></a></p>

<p><a href="http://www.chow.com/recipes/11372">» Chili con Carne</a></p>
<p class="desc">Barack Obama is known to boast about his <a href="http://www.northcoastjournal.com/issues/2008/05/29/baracks-chili/" target="blank">chili recipe, telling California&#8217;s <i>North Coast Journal</i></a> that &#8220;if you make it right, it&#8217;s just got the right amount of bite, the right amount of oomph in it and it will clear your sinuses.&#8221; Our recipe is similar, but we leave out the beans.</p>

	<p><a href="http://www.chow.com/recipes/10722"><img src="/assets/2008/12/inline4_cheddarbiscuits.jpg" alt="" /></a></p>

<p><a href="http://www.chow.com/recipes/10722">» Cheddar Biscuits</a></p>
<p class="desc">Since cheddar is Obama&#8217;s &#8220;cheese of choice,&#8221; according to an <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/27/us/politics/27reggie.html?_r=1&#38;oref=slogin" target="blank">interview his personal aide, Reggie Love, did with the <i>New York Times</i></a>, we paired our cheddar biscuits with the chili. </p>

	<p><a href="http://www.chow.com/recipes/11155"><img src="/assets/2008/12/inline5_squashsalad.jpg" alt="" /></a></p>

<p><a href="http://www.chow.com/recipes/11155">» Roasted Delicata Squash Salad</a></p>
<p class="desc"><a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/27/us/politics/27likes.html?_r=1&#38;ref=politics" target="blank">Love also noted</a> that Obama is big on vegetables, particularly spinach and broccoli. Our salad pairs lightly wilted spinach with pumpkin seeds and roasted winter squash. </p>

	<p><a href="http://www.chow.com/recipes/11128"><img src="/assets/2008/12/inline6_pumpkinpie.jpg" alt="" /></a></p>

<p><a href="http://www.chow.com/recipes/11128">» Pumpkin Pie with Spiced Crust</a></p>
<p class="desc">The president-elect likes pie, as evidenced by the video below in which he mentions it <i>15</i> times. Our pumpkin pie with a spiced crust is a good fit. </p>
