Re cutting acorn squash in half: there is an easier way. Stick it in the microwave for three minutes then cut it easily, remove seeds, add butter etc, put in hot oven, bake. (Perforate with knife before putting in microwave so it won't explode.)
Great tip, Querencia! Will try next time instead of all the whacking it usually takes. Much more civilized!
