Road-Food Rocker

Alex Kapranos discusses Sound Bites, his collection of essays about eating on tour

Rock stars are known more for dabbling in amateur pharmacology than for writing essay collections. That would make Alex Kapranos an anomaly. The Franz Ferdinand frontman talked to us about eating on tour, the sinister appeal of gutting animals, and Sound Bites (Fig Tree, 2006), his new book of musings on road food.

James Norton edits the Upper Midwestern food journal Heavy Table. He's also the coauthor of an upcoming book on Wisconsin's master cheesemakers. His Supertaster column appears on CHOW every Monday. His wife, Becca Dilley, takes the photographs for Supertaster. She specializes in weddings and food photography, and is the coauthor of and photographer for the book on Wisconsin's master cheesemakers.
