And I’d like to Thank…
The Vendy Awards give New York vendors their night to shine
The Street Vendor Project of the Urban Justice Center seeks to protect the rights and improve the work conditions of these entrepreneurs. The Vendy Awards are their Oscar night.
CHOW reported from the second annual Vendy Awards on Sunday, October 22, 2006, at St. Marks Church-in-the-Bowery in New York City.

I love this! What an awesome event to cover. I'd never heard of the Vendy's before and think the mission of the event is so admirable. It's amazing how the Center is bringing awareness to the cause in such a creative way. Some of the best food I've eaten is from street vendors and they're rarely properly appreciated. Thanks and keep 'em coming.
I'm sure this is not an issue for any of these vendors, but generally, is it safe to eat meat that has been cooked on the street in a food cart (i.e. are there standards that should be followed)? Also, what about the smell that many of these carts emit, are there standards to reduce this?
Do any of these places deliver? Are they open on the weekends?

Good idea and it will inspire more vendors too and reinforce the integrity of the existing ones.I wish we had street vendors in Seattle.

This is awesome! And I second the comment about street vendors in Seattle - I guess there are taco trucks around and whatnot, but no carts on street corners, which I think would do very well and add a lot to the Emerald City experience. Cheers all.
I envy you New Yorkers, what an array of different cuisines! All DC has are some indigestion-inducing dirty water hot dogs and maybe a couple of burrito carts.
