good to know

Argentina style food. Tito’s Market is located in the rear of the Tito’s Plaza strip mall. Tito’s is two places in one; 1, Tito’s is a fast pace/ high volume walk-up hot food counter with several cash registers operating during the rush hours, 2, Tito’s is a meat market with a long meat case of fresh cut meats and isles of South of the border imported goods. Most people get their hot food from the counter to-go but there are a number of tables inside the store for those who wish to eat there. A number of items are very popular and are continuously made fresh to replenish the mountains of food being sold. Tito’s empanadas and subs are so popular in the SGV that sales over the years have provided Tito’s family with the resources to build Toto’s Plaza. There are many items on the menu which will all be made fresh to order. Tito’s is a good place to keep in mind to grab some food for a pot-luck, a house party, a picnic or to just have some friends over to watch the game. Each of the foods mentioned below are also good as leftovers the next day.

Tito’s Beef Empanadas ($1.09) are made with a savory ground beef and various seasonings including perhaps cumin. Those flavors combine well with the single green olive hidden inside and result in a desire to have a second one right now! If you order several dozen for a party you will be told that you should have ordered them in advance and then, within a few minutes, they come through the kitchen door fresh made and boxed to your order. Still, it might be better to make large orders in advance rather than walking in near closing time and expecting to get a few dozen.

Tito’s Regular Subs, like the empanadas, are so popular that you will probably also see a small mountain of them when you enter. Don’t be concerned, these are very fresh because they sell fast. It is a simple sandwich made with good fresh baked bread and thin slices of cooked ham, mortadella, baloney, cheese, tomato and jalapeno w/ mayo. The jalapeno usually is not overly hot and adds something special to the totality of the bread, meats and thin slices of tomato giving the sandwich a flavor and texture rightness. Tito’s will also make a custom sub using fresh deli meats from their deli meat and cheese case.

Tito’s Hot Wings. These are not the typical hot wing. These are different, large and very good. The “Hot” version is not crazy hot but they do have some heat. The meat is cooked properly but is still moist while the outside is crunchy. The wings go well with all the other items mentioned here and, like the empanadas, should be ordered in a larger amount than thought to be needed.

Tito’s Deep Fried Jalapeno are stuffed with cream cheese, lightly breaded and deep fried. The outside is perfectly crunchy, just like the hot wings, and the red jalapeno is still moist and the cream cheese filling is very good and plentiful. The jalapeno is spicy hot yet not crazy hot. One or two of these are enough.
