»Time to get their act together....
I wanted to love this place. It's the very concept I was seeking for downtown Toronto. When I got their mail invitation a few weeks after they opened, I marked my calendar to visit. I wanted to love this place. It's the very concept I was seeking for downtown Toronto. When I got their mail invitation a few weeks after they opened, I marked my calendar to visit. I planned to do a Happy Hour there---and stay for dinner. The invitation said they opened at 5 p.m., and they had complimentary appetizers from 5-7 with some drink specials. When my friend and I arrived at 5:15 p.m., we both tripped over the red carpet---rolled in a ball on the inside of the doorway. As ParkdaleEater described (three months after we were there), the bartender was more interested in her bar station, counting olives, polishing glasses---than in serving the four patrons inside the place. I shouldn't have to fight for her attention when the place is empty (she was often busy mirror-gazing and making sure everything was in place. Not in the bar. On herself.)
At 6 p.m., I asked about the complimentary appetizers, and I was told that I "should have asked in advance." They had to be ordered---they weren't passed or made available. At 7 p.m., they still weren't out, and when I had determined to leave and go elsewhere, I was told, "But your appetizers will be ready in about 10 minutes." Huh??? I attributed all of this to being newly opened, but when I read ParkdaleEater's review, I agreed wholeheartedly with everything written.
The place was pricey (a happy hour martini exceeded $10), the staff uncertain about what to do, and I can't comment upon the food because it never came, despite the fact I was there nearly two hours and waiting for what had been falsely advertised. I haven't been back. While the atmosphere was appealing, the service and cost has deterred my return.-COLLAPSE
»More club than fine dining

The RR is located on Adelaide Street in the heart of clubland. Despite the Drummond St. address (Drummond being a little alley way) diners enter in from the door on Adelaide and later in the evening the clubland lineups start on Drummond. The restaurant has three distinct rooms. You enter into a room with a long bar, which opens onto a center room with dancefloor. The far side is slightly raised tables. The decoration is beautiful and it is a classy looking establishment.
To be fair, the menu was solidly put together, with an eye to local food and current trends. When we visited there was everything from Lobster Bisque, Guinea Hen to steak. The food was not particularly adventurous or creative, but was well prepared and presented.
I was also quite disappointed with the service. Trying to get a drink before dinner was painful. Even though there were few people in the bar, our bartender didn't appear to notice us standing there and was too busy counting olives to help us out. When she did, cocktails more complex than a gin and tonic had to be explained. The servers in the dining room were trying, but weren't trained for fine dining. They removed plates from our table while people were still eating, and couldn't answer basic questions about the menu.
Overall, I was disappointed. But perhaps that's what I get for trying to eat in clubland.-COLLAPSE
