»Good/Bad
I have had great food there several times, but consistently BAD service!
Yes Fudist,
That's one thing I really like about Hell's, they are using real quality ingredients like actual crabmeat, butter, etc. So even though I'm kind of healthy food oriented, I'd rather go eat heavy cream on real wild rice porridge there than 'lite' fake processed food somewhere else.

I've really enjoyed certain comfort food type things there like the manohmin porridge with cream in it. also the maple bison sausage. REPLY (10 Replies)
»Jfood hits Hell's Kitchen (MSP) - Pretty Decent
Jfood has another week in MSP and for his first night (always a challenge on Mondays) he decided to give Hell’s Kitchen a try. He worked his way down the stairs and saw a fairly empty site at 7PM. It reminded him a lot of “The Tombs” in Georgetown if anyone has been. Looks more like a college Rathskellar than a downtown restaurant serving all courses, all day long. He was given a high table with a huge screen TV showing surfing from Hawaii. Not fair since it is December in Minneapolis.
After reading numerous reviews of what to order and not able to decide on one thing as he prepared in the hotel, he decided, what the heck he’d order two and eat half of each. He chose the Huevos Rancheros - A crisp flour tortilla is stacked with buttery hash brown potatoes, homemade spicy black beans, soft scrambled eggs and a 3-cheese topping baked to a golden brown, topped with their homemade salsa and a dollop of sour cream plus the BBQ Bison Bacon Burger, layered with 2 slices of crisp, thick, applewood-cured bacon, served with homemade BBQ sauce with sweet potato fries and the slab of Vermont White Cheddar.
Eggs came first (that’s also Jfood's answer to the chicken and egg question, but that’s another thread). Jfood stared at his knife only, what was he to do with only a knife? Then he noticed that knives and forks plus napkins are stored at the table, OK first obstacle successfully completed. He tried the potatoes first with a little black beans. Very good but his comment would be that he likes a little more salt in his hash browns. Then he grabbed a whole mouthful of all of the flavors. Excellent. Flavors exploded in his mouth, textures galore, spicy, sweet, but no salty. As he worked his way through this dish it was very hard to push to one side as he promised himself only to eat half.
The server brought the burger to Jfood. This is not a thick burger by any stretch of the imagination, probably 3/8” thick. Two nice thick pieces of bacon and the BBQ sauce. Forgotten from the burger was the cheese, but given Jfood's appetizer he let his cardiologist guide him to keep his mouth shut. Jfood, as always, tried the sweet potato fries first. The flavor was great, nicely salted, but why can’t a kitchen get fries to the table while they are hot. The burger was his next stop and with his first bite Jfood found all of the salt that was missing from his hash browns. His head snapped back. Was it the bacon or the meat? He pulled the bacon out of the bun and took a bite, nope this was great bacon. So he went back to the burger. It was a salt-pocket that Jfood experienced on his first bite. The rest of the burger was very good, deep rich flavor, nice, but not great BBQ sauce. Although Jfood ordered it medium, he would say it was delivered in a medium-well state, but it was still juicy. If he were to order again he would order the plain burger with the bacon and cheese as well as the SP fries.
The service was great. Jfood's server was on-task, checked in, kept the water glass filled, just another great young server in MSP.
In conclusion, the place is what it is. Fun atmosphere, decent food, and if they could get the quality control in order (yes Jfood understands that Mondays are usually off-nights for many of the staff) then it would be a fun place for a couple or a group of people to go and hang out, have some beer and eat like college kids.-COLLAPSE
