Little Pepper is a place you'd never go to if not for someone else's recommendation. It is on a surprisingly deserted part of Roosevelt Avenue only a block and a half off of Main Street, below street level with some sort of dingy business above.

Once you descend the steps and enter the restaurant, however, you find yourself in a small but clean and brightly lit room. The food is interesting, fresh, tasty, plentiful and very cheap - the bill before tip for six of us, including more food than we could eat and one beer apiece, came to $100. We especially enjoyed the lamb with scallions, tofu and baby shrimp, whole fish with tofu and spicy chicken with peanuts. I would say it stood up pretty well in comparison to Spicy & Tasty, which seems to be everyone's Gold Standard in that area.

The service is, predictably, horrible - the one waiter spoke virtually no English, forgot to bring out one of our dishes, delivered a Diet Coke which we did not order and brought our soup out last, after all of the appetizers and main courses. I have to say, however, that it was bad service with a smile.

Fine dining it's not, but if you're looking for good food which is light on the wallet combined with an interesting experience, this is your place.-COLLAPSE
