good to know

Smokey’s BBQ Shake is an aptly named , un-assuming little place just outside of Raliegh, and they don’t need my help as relates to exposure. They’ve been doing this for a while, and they do it right, as the big pile of firewood out back can attest.
You’ll want to go there for the meats, as that is what they do best. The Beef brisket is what will have you coming back again, and the pulled pork is as good as you will ever have. The thing that I think sets them apart from the rest is the sauce, in hot or sweet. They give you the vinegar base that is so popular around the Carolinas, yet they blend in a sweet, apple, spicey base that brings it around to some of the sauces from Kansas City or Memphis. It really works.

Don’t worry about having to talk to any waitress, you just order the food, it comes out of a little window, and you sit down and eat it in peace if you can find a table.
There is a picnic area out back with tables and a fountain which is really nice if the weather allows.

They have domestic beers for sale, some imports, a fine assortment of the usual sides, and you can take home a bottle or jug of their incredible sauce. There is always plenty on the table to slather over the meats.

You’ll be going back if you try it once, I know I will.
