My fiance and I just got back from an amazing meal at La Tour....the perfect close to a fun day of skiing at Vail. We normally aren't happy when we splurge for a good meal. La Tour was the exception.
We started sharing some appetizers. She ordered the "slow roasted baby beet salad with goat cheese, walnuts, and black truffle vinaigrette. The beets were had a mellow flavor that was intensified by the goat and tamed by the truffle vinaigrette. The waiter was exceptionally knowledgeable about the food. We asked him where the goat cheese came from. Apparently it was from Colorado and produced by Haystack Farms. I ordered the the tuna poke. I normally dont order anything with raw fish, but this was good. I really liked the sauce it was some sort of sesame and soy based sauce.
For the main course, being the man that I am, I ordered the surf and turf. It was prepared well. The beef was of obvious great quality, the lobster was sweet and buttery, and the mashed potatoes were mounted with creme fraiche and out of this world. My fiance ordered the roasted scallops with trumpet mushrooms and gingered squash puree. I'm assuming here dish was really good. She smiled the whole time eating and pushed my hand away every time I tried to sneak a bite of her dish.
We ended our foodgasm with the pot au creme. WOW! Sexy, Sophisticated, and perfectly sinful like a good woman. This perfect plate came out with a little pot with a lid. Inside was a caramel mousse with sea salt. Who doesn't love caramel? On the side were a couple of lacy vanilla flavored cookies. There was a chocolate truffle on the side, but my fiance stole it away when I wasn't looking. B*tch. (just kidding honey)
All and all our experience was one of the best meals we've had in many years. Even though we don't have an exceptional amount of money, and don't treat ourselves often, this was worth the money. Though prepare yourself before you look at the check.-COLLAPSE
