I've been to Ssam and Animal and enjoy both. The closest I've come to the vibe of those 2 spots in SF is Wexler's. Bartenders are doing nice things: "smoked" manhattan rocked and they make a competent corpse reviver #2.

This is not upscale BBQ- it's inventive food by a former Michelin Starred chef done in a low key environment, with no entrees over $20.-COLLAPSE

The plate of pork that I ordered there recently had some of the best pork schnitzel (lyrically described as "chicken-fried") that I have had in a long while. The "shrimp and grits" were more like "prawn and grits". And the "dirty-rice" arancini were the best arancini I've eaten in SF since Ducca took a turn for the worse. They even had impeccably fresh uni. They even had impeccably fresh uni. What a wonderful fusion of European, Red-State, and Asian cuisines. It's not fair to compare this restaurant to a BBQ joint...not fair to the BBQ joint, that is. Especially at these reasonable prices. Hold the ketchup and brown sugar!-COLLAPSE / REPLY (6 Replies) (by Dave.Pitinga, created April 18, 2010)
