good to know
We were visiting The City from Reno. We went for a long walk and ended up crossing the street to check out Roland’s...it looked new and we wanted to check it out to see if it had sticking power.
It DOES.
Roland was there, as were a couple other folks working, and all were genuinely friendly people. We were offered free tasters, and even a few free samples of some new small-sized danishes Roland is testing out – Cinnamon Sugar and a Raspberry variety – both with incredible flavor and PERFECT individual proportion-sizing.
But what we really went in for were the bagels. We sampled two spreads, the Roasted Tomato and the Garlic Chive. While both were tasty, and the tomato spread did have a great flavor, we adore garlic and it was pungent, tangy and smooth.
We ordered an onion bagel sans the hole (nice to split and less messy w/ the spread) and had the helpful young lady add some of that garlic chive spread.
The texture of the bagel was perfect – not chewy or tough at all, but soft and tender, and the onions (which sometimes can taste burnt or sour on a bagel) were toasted and warm and delicious.
I only wish I lived closer so that I could patronize Roland’s more often. I’d love to see this place succeed. I WHOLEHEARTEDLY recommend stopping here for breakfast if you’re in the area...or near it...or even a half hour away. :)
It’s worth it.
