Allen’s is a curious combination of restaurant and antique shop, the latter reflecting the main interest of Allen himself, whom we met. One whole wall of the restaurant, about 40 feet of it, is covered with a mural depicting scenes from Arkansas’ past. The hamburger, al Miguel the chef, definitely lived up to expectations; it was large, prepared by hand and included lettuce, tomato, pickle slices and sautéed onions. Allen also served as our tour guide. He told us the two things Camden was known for were a special grape drink of some sort (I didn’t write down the name) and a local type of pottery. It was a great introduction to South Arkansas.-COLLAPSE (by rnadler, created January 21, 2010)
