We dined at Restaurant Nicholas for the first time this weekend, and having read so much about it we were very excited to be have the opportunity to dine here. Our overall opinion, at the end of the meal was truly just so-so. The service is impeccable; it's hard to think of another restaurant that can match it. Our overall opinion, at the end of the meal was truly just so-so. The service is impeccable; it's hard to think of another restaurant that can match it. However, in the end, the most important factor is the food. We both had the three-course meal and found almost everything we had to be lacking in some respect. The veal chop ordered, when served, was lukewarm at best, the apple butter jus was devoid of depth of flavor. We found the size of the portions to be quite small. Believe me, we aren't looking for quantity, but when you read the description as including root vegetables and sunchoke puree you expect a little more than a thimble size serving.
