good to know
The Buccaneer is located in an historic warehouse dating back to the late 1700s and is situated in the heart of downtown Charleston. A 1,000 gallon saltwater fish aquarium is the center piece of the dining room, along with the life-sized Buccaneer.
Similar to its sister restaurant Queen Anne’s Revenge, the Buccaneer houses one of the nation’s largest collections of artifacts of the “Golden Age of Piracy.” The “Golden Age of Piracy” refers to the period of piracy along the Carolina coast from 1690 to 1730. The Buccaneer is located in Downtown Charleston. The Buccaneer is open seven days a week, and on Saturdays and Sundays, brunch is offered. General Manager Jeffrey Palsa, inspired by his family farm upbringing, incorporates local, farm fresh produce.
Chef Zachary Willard mans the kitchen, incorporating fresh, locally-caught seafood into many of the dishes. Willard was previously Sous Chef since 2004 for sister restaurant Queen Anne’s Revenge.
Signature lunch items include Charleston Crab Dip with House Made Crackers, She Crab Soup, Speckled Butter Bean Soup, Shrimp and Ham Stuffed Collards, Fried Green Tomato and Crab BLT, Pressed Cuban, Simply Grilled Fresh Fish and Daily Galley Lunch Specials.
Dinner favorites range from the Lobster & Lobster Macaroni and Cheese, with Orecchiette pasta and lobster baked in a rich three cheese sauce, white truffle oil, topped with broiled lobster tails, to the Signature Roast Prime Rib of Beef, specially selected, aged and then slow roasted, to the Captain’s Platter of lightly dusted flash-fried seafood. Lighter options include the Tuna Burger and Pecan Crusted Chicken Salad. Also, the Boucan, skewered and cooked over an open grill, is an exciting and unique choice.
The comfort inspired brunch features the Buccaneer Breakfast Platter, consisting of scrambled eggs, ham steak, crisp bacon, broiled tomato, a biscuit with Benton’s country gravy, and creamy Anson Mills grits or breakfast potatoes. Additionally, the Crème Bruleé French Toast with thick-cut brioche bread dipped in batter, pan fried to order, topped with caramelized turbinado sugar, warm maple syrup and served with crispy bacon is another delicious plate. The Crab Cake Biscuit and Silver Doubloon Pancakes are other popular favorites.
