Krankies Coffee

Krankies Coffee is a coffee roaster, coffee shop, beer/wine bar and cultural hub in Winston-Salem, NC. Our hand-forged coffees are among the best to be found. We are committed to seeking out the finest and freshest coffees from around the world.

Our story starts back in 1972 when Maria Braucht started roasting coffee in Winston-Salem. Maria began roasting coffee because she knew that freshness was a crucial factor in creating a great cup of coffee. Her efforts and passion for coffee allowed her to become a pioneer of the specialty coffee industry in the Southeast. Here at Krankies we are proud to carry on the tradition of excellence that Maria started. Come by for a visit and checkout her roaster, custom-made in Greece.

One of the fine details that makes our coffee exeptional is the batch-size. Our gas-fired drum-roaster cooks up about fourteen pounds per batch. This portion allows for optimal control and attention to detail by Chris, the Master Roaster.

Our roaster is located in downtown Winston-Salem, running Monday through Friday. We provide the Triad and the rest of the globe with fresh, distinct, incredible coffees from all over the world. We currently have coffees from seventeen different countries, and we bring in new coffees all the time. To select new coffees we have a small 1lb sample roaster which we use often to try numerous coffees from every region.

We also offer Fair-Trade and Organic coffees and are currently working to expand into relationship coffee, sourcing our own beans from individual farmers from around the world.

In addition to great coffee, we carry fine teas and an extensive selection of craft beers and wine. Headquartered in The Wherehouse, an artists live/work/performance space in downtown Winston-Salem, Krankies is a part of a dynamic and creative community. We strive to create a fun and enriching atmosphere for our friends and ourselves, hosting live music, art shows, film screenings, dance, theater, and a variety of other cultural events.
