»Great meal at Spruce
I had an amazing meal at Spruce last Friday. Really outstanding.
I started with the caramelized day boat scallops over a curried sauce. Scallops themselves had a great fresh texture, sweet flavor, and perfect sear. Sauce was good. It was a strong starter.

I had an amazing meal at Spruce last Friday. Really outstanding.
I started with the caramelized day boat scallops over a curried sauce. Scallops themselves had a great fresh texture, sweet flavor, and perfect sear. Sauce was good. It was a strong starter.
Others had a special of tomato and burrata salad. Pretty good but tomatoes have just not been great this year. These were respectable and well seasoned, but did not have that swooning quality of tomatoes at their peak. .
For my entree I had the duck breast with foie gras, yellow plums and bitter greens. It was simply outstanding. Best duck in memory. Meaty, duck-y, and a beautiful crisp skin with just the right amount of fat to be a foil for the plums and greens. The plate was so good I kept quiet and hoped no one would want to share. Others enjoyed the butter-poached lobster and the pork. I didn’t ask for a taste for obvious reasons.
Desserts were great too--beignets, chocolate bread pudding. But the stand out was the peach cobbler with maple ice cream. Wow, the crust was fragrant with butter, the peaches sweet and syrupy, and the ice cream subtle but able to stand up to the cobbler. Good with a glass of calvados. They had 7 types of coffee brewed to order.
Great service, very knowledgeable and helpful when asked for help. Not obtrusive, which I like.
I sound like a broken record, I know. Maybe it was a good night, but every bite I had was excellent. I hope they are that good every night because I will be back.-COLLAPSE
