good to know

Other locations: Gravesend, Sheepshead Bay.

This place is really cool, maybe partially due to its slightly out of the way location.

There are over 300 beers, which means there is truly something for everyone. As for me, I’d never had a beer I liked (I’m a wine-drinker) until the bartender suggested a sour Belgian lambic that was fantastic.

The food is great too; an assortment of Hungarian and general east european fare, and not only meats! The herring with onions and thick cut steak frites was delectable. They also have great salads and a tilapia dish, which I haven’t tried yet. The portions are very large. My boyfriend can eat a lot and had to take half home to enjoy later.

My boyfriend’s top meat pick is the spicy Hungarian sausage. He also had the gypsy steak, which was good, but he claims the sausage is better. The owner of the place also owns a meat distribution outfit, and all the sausages and meats are made fresh there.

The standout for me is the combination of the cheese spread appetizer with the AMAZING salty, beer-soaked pumpernickel croutons. If you go there, don’t leave without trying these croutons with cheese spread. They haunt my dreams!

There is an event room in the back, and big flatscreen TVs all around the main room, which features cozy wooden semi-enclosed booths for two along the sides, and long wooden picnic tables in the center for larger parties.

I’m a wine-drinking pescatarian (vegetarian who eats fish) and my bf is a meat and beer lover, and we both love it here! Worth the trip.
