It’s an uniquely New Orleans accent, supposedly comes from the phrase, “Where y'at?” Which is what you ask someone when you want to know how they are. Believe it or not, it sounds a lot like a Brooklyn accent, with a little French and Southern charm thrown in a well.

Delicious oyster/shrimp Po' Boy at Yat's this morning.
They had a sign posted:
Yats is closing December 16, 2009 for the winter ... will re-open in the spring at our new 2100sq ft full service restaurant located at 4800 3rd St and Oakdale (opposite Bayview Opera).
Owner was hoping for a mid-March opening and said they would do breakfast and lunch with regular crab and crawfish boils. He...+READ

IMO this is the best and closest to what you get in Lousiana -- in fact it would be considered a winner in NOLA.
