I agree 100%. Pretty much everything is prepared to order so there are no 'thali' combo type plates with small amounts of several items which is more common in Indian and other restaurants that prepare larger pots of food. I have the same problem when I go with my girlfriend because I order "very spicy/Pakistani hot" and she prefers much less heat. The end result/downside is that we order more dishes and eat too much or have left overs for the next days lunch. The upside is that because the food is prepared to order, it's spiced as ordered.-COLLAPSE / REPLY (6 Replies)
The reviews I found were mixed but since I could not find any other Pakistani restaurants in the SFV - I decided to give it a try. There is no longer a grocery store. There is no longer a grocery store. Its a very plain restaurant - more like a large room with cheap folding chairs and tables in a not so nice strip mall in Chatsworth. I ordered the Chicken Tikka, Lamb Karahi and Naan. The lamb was excellent, the Chicken would have been v.good if it had been thoroughly cooked! I had to nuke it when I brought it home. I had also wanted the Eggplant dish but it says seasonal on the menu which I thought was strange. Also I called in the order around 7pm and I heard the order taker asking someone if they could still accept orders which I also found rather strange. Overall - the food was good and I would order from Tawakal again as I find Pakistani food far superior to the many Indian restaurants in So Cal.-COLLAPSE
I don't know about going with a client cause it's not upscale (I'm being kind) but I really love some of the veggie dishes at Tawakal. The eggplant and dal both ordered xtra spicy/hot are trancendent. Other veg dishes, raita, mango lassi and naan are good as well!

This is a Pakistani restaurant, owned by an Afghani fellow that lived in Karachi, Pakistan for years. Meat dishes including Nihari, Haleem, Karahi Gosht, whatever he calls his version of tandoori chicken...........all good!-COLLAPSE
