I think your hotel is in the 50s so you will not be able to venture that far into Brooklyn. Sams's is the only place I know that might fit the bill for you. REPLY (13 Replies) (by Geo8rge, created May 30, 2011)

»Unique and awesome pizza

I grew up around NYC (CT) and now live in LA. Pizza is one of my favorites and I have eaten it all over the world, including in Italy.

I have to say that Sam's is right up there with the best I've had. My brother and I ended up there serendipitously when we couldn't get into Lucali or Grimaldi's. So we stumbled into Sam's on the advice of a local we met while trying to get into Lucali. His...+READ

I have to say that Sam's is right up there with the best I've had. My brother and I ended up there serendipitously when we couldn't get into Lucali or Grimaldi's. So we stumbled into Sam's on the advice of a local we met while trying to get into Lucali. His advice was to not order anything other than the pizza and that the waiter was a bit quirky. Both true.

The style of the Pizza is like nothing I've ever tasted. It's a sensational crust, Thick / medium. It's a brick oven pizza, so it has that nice chewy texture and crunch balance. The sauce is a very smooth, creamy, classic type of red sauce. Solid classic topings - sausage, peperoni, etc.

In LA we go to Pizza Mozza, which is excellent "fancy pizza" with lighter style crust. Sam's crust hearty. It's thicker than a Grimaldi's or a Pepe's type of brick oven crust.

The vibe and decor is right out of Soprano's or Bronx Tale. The waiter is wierd / charming with "character" depending on how you view things. We felt it was cool and made the place special, though you have to be in a chill, accepting mood. The bottom line is: frikin' awesome pizza and you'll never taste another like it. They've been making it there since 1959, same location, same everything. This place is an absolute gem, worth making a trip for if you are a pizza lover. Something special.-COLLAPSE
