I thought of you, fellow rum-fan. We were able to sample all of them - White, Gold, Estate V/X, Estate Reserve, Estate Extra 12 Year, Estate 21 Year, and Estate Limited Edition 30 Year (wow!). RumBar is the only place in Phoenix who has the 30-year old (only 744 bottles made available in the U.S) at about $120 a glass IIRC. Genius - it was paired with a local Black Sphinx date.

I learned a lot about both Appleton Estates and rums in general. Afterwards we stayed for one more, and I tried another interesting rum - Dos Maderas 5+5 - a blend of rums of Guyana and Barbados aged in Spain in sherry casks.

I've only eaten here once before for dinner and was reminded again how good it is. We were greeted with one of my favorites - the Kingston Punch (Wray and Nephew Overproof, Myer's Dark, pineapple, orange, lime, bitters). Braised oxtail sliders and jerk shrimp (properly Jamaican fiery) were served, and chocolate truffles paired with the sipping rums. I guess they also have regular Rum classes. I definitely plan on signing up for that. The friendly owner Dwayne is a wealth of information and it's such a cozy bar.-COLLAPSE

It's a great cocktail book. He goes into some detail about Peruvian Piscos, that there are 8 grape varieties permitted (Barsol is Quebranta) and 4 categories like puro using one grape or Acholado with a mix.

Heading to CPH tonight actually with some friends including Chowhound BillB656, who has been experimenting with his own bitters by the way - @AZBittersLab on Twitter. We're having cocktails there before dinner at Cuoco Pazza, but after E and I attend a private Appleton rum tasting at the Breadfruit. Excited to try the Limited Edition 30-year. Tomorrow will be a day of rest ; )

I like the The Breadfruit (Jamaican), though have only had appetizers there - peppered prawns with roti, Jamaican patties, curried shrimp, jerk chicken. For me, nice heat, though not super-spicy. Great cocktails (Rosemary's Pistol, Hemingway Daiquiri, Kingston Rum punch) and rum flights too in the adjacent RumBar. REPLY (7 Replies)
