It used to be really good, but it's gone downhill since my last visit. (by ditchpudding, updated June 21, 2010)
Get there right when it opens if you want a seat for brunch. If you have a large enough party (I believe it's 6 or more) you can make a reservation. I prefer the brunch over dinner here. Get there right when it opens if you want a seat for brunch. If you have a large enough party (I believe it's 6 or more) you can make a reservation. I prefer the brunch over dinner here. Perhaps because a German dinner with German beer fill me up too much. Or simply because the coffee is good plus it's easier on the wallet.
Your vegetarian friend would be robbed of the proper German experience, were it not for their top veg items. Meat or no meat, the potato pancakes and cucumber salad excel. These thick bird's nests, woven together with crispy golden fibers, thirst for a generous dollop of apple sauce, which makes for a sweet, salty, juicy, crunchy, cold, hot amalgam. And the translucent slices of green cukes are unlike the proverbial parsley on a blue-plate special, but rather a destination vegetable. One person at the table ordered the omelet special just to get the side salad.
I had the sauteed bread dumpling, which is a cross between a savory french toast and a crouton, for its crunchy golden finish. It also came with two eggs over easy, potatoes with cubed bacon and two sausages. Absolute heart-stopping goodness.
It might be the morning light on the white plaster walls and the blond wood table that transports me to the kitchen on a Bavarian farm. But this is one of my favorite spots in the city for a breakfast. And you won't get hungry again until the evening.-COLLAPSE
