This is old school Jewish baking of the highest order. The babka is superb - we had a chocolate on a Sunday and all agreed it at least equaled the best we'd had. I've done a methodical survey of Jewish bakeries north of Manhattan, and the best rugelach are also at Mother's. Can't speak to the cupcakes; I stay with the classics of the genre: prune and cheese danish as they come out in the mornings, ryes and challahs, "frozen dough" (as we call them). I'm sorry, I wanted this place to be so much better than it was. Got a chocolate cupcake that looked pretty in the glass case but was dry and stale, like it had been made 3 days prior. Also, I think it was supposed to contain a cream filling (?) but the stingy little dot of white cream in there seemed like a mistake. My experience was as disappointing as a chocolate cupcake could be. sad. Riverdale could really use a superior bakery. This isn't it. (by goodeatsnNYC , created October 14, 2010)

They make an excellent Babka, I particularly like the chocolate. They only make it on Fridays and if you get there much past 11 am you could be on shaky ground because they go fast as the locals besiege the place looking to ensure they have a sweet sabbath cake.
