»SF - Happy Hour at Anchor & Hope
psb and I met for a drink (well - several) this week at Anchor & Hope.
There are a few mentions of it on the board but nothing specific to Happy Hour. The chief attraction for me is clearly $1 Oysters from 4:30 PM to 6 PM on weekdays, IIRC. They had a fantastic plump and juicy variety from Washington the day we were there. Miles ahead of some other $1 oysters in SF like Grand Cafe and the like. Properly shucked too - which is always a delight.
I had a few pints of Lagunitas IPA - $3 a pop during happy hour. Note for lovers of English ale, they do have a hand pumped ale on tap - only sometimes though ! psb tried a couple of white wines I think and was impressed with their extensive beer list.
Following which we had the angels on horseback - described here in detail by a fellow poster. http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/575090#4199942
I concur with her assessment - I dislike cooked oysters and they tasted like mush compared to the super-crispy fried bacon.
The other item we devoured with wild abandon were the fries - oh the fries - these were really delicious - perfectly crisp and dusted liberally with parmesan. Served with aioli which was also outstanding.
psb stuck around for a bit - maybe you'd like to add your thoughts about dinner ?

»Good, pricey food. Slow service
* The salad had too much runny, salty dressing
* The lobster roll was pretty good
* The beer selection is magnificent
* The prices are about 20% too high
* We waited a long time for the food and far too long for the check
»Great dinner, and close to my office
What a beautiful place, with great decor, friendly servers, and the seafood is awesome. Definitely try the warm sea urchin appetizer if you get a chance. And it might not be on the menu depending on the season, but I really enjoyed my honey mustard grilled brook trout. And its a block away from 111 Minna, which is a great gallery space.
»Good food, good ambiance, mediocre lobster rolls
I love this place, it's airy and comfortable, the food is great, and it's a good place to eat alone at the bar near my office. That said, get something other than the lobster roll, it's an expensive disappointment. I went as part of my quest for good SF lobster rolls (see http://www.chow.com/lists/2024 for details) and it was tasty, of course, but wrong, too much old bay seasoning, not enough...+READ I love this place, it's airy and comfortable, the food is great, and it's a good place to eat alone at the bar near my office. I went as part of my quest for good SF lobster rolls (see http://www.chow.com/lists/2024 for details) and it was tasty, of course, but wrong, too much old bay seasoning, not enough buttery lobster flavor. Everything else i've had there is great though, and the bread and butter are superb.-COLLAPSE
