good to know

The selections I had were excellent – but the owner was so rude, he bordered on racist.
The food was great, but I will call before returning, and if Stacy is there, I’ll settle for Honey Bears over on Central or Mrs White’s on Jefferson.
That being said, the beef order was perfect! Tender with a great smoky taste. Not overcooked and mushy, but nice and robust with exactly the right amount of sauce.
After asking what side dishes were served, because there is no printed menu and the faded chalk board is virtually illegible against a ceiling with no lights, Stacy told me what sides he served. I opted for the red beans and rice and was pleased to discover they were as good as any to be found any pricey spot in the French Quarter.
It was my first trip and I did not know that they do not serve dinners – as a matter of fact Stacy told me that if I wanted a dinner I should go somewhere else.
When I told him I couldn’t read the chalk board, he asked what I was driving then ran over to the door and looked around the lot. I guess my car was impressive enough for him to return and take my order. There was a nice, conversational lady at the counter waiting for her order and visiting with him when I arrived, and she even had to tell him that he should be nicer to his customer. I have had several hours to consider this and must admit I am disappointed to have found probably the best barbeque in Phoenix and yet will have to be really desperate to go back when the owner might be around.
I hope other diners have better luck than I did.
