good to know
I’ve been going to Katella Deli since I was a kid, around 25 years. They are well known for their Bakery where you can get custom cakes (really good!), pieces of cakes (dozens to choose from) to all the great cookies and breads that are made fresh daily on site.
They also have a great meat counter where you can buy all their deli meats, knish’s, lox, matzo balls, etc.
Can be VERY crowded at times, but worth the wait.
I have never had a bad meal here and they serve Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and have a seperate full service bar area which is great for happy hour and or watching local team sports. Full menu is also served at the bar.
Breakfast platters are BIG, you can get normal breakfasts, but why? Try their omeletts! They use all their deli meats in great combinations. You can even get blintz and matzoh-bry.
My all time favorite appetizer is their Deli Skins. Not your run of the mill potato skins... Fresh potatoes covered in cheese, corned beef, pastrami, tomatoes, green onion and olives. Served with Ranch dressing. DO NOT PASS THIS UP!!! (they also serve a similar Deli Omelette...)
Lunch/Dinners, can’t go wrong with any of their 25 sandwiches which come with fries, fruit salad, pasta salads, etc. They also have really good fresh fries.
Their soups are traditional Jewish soups and are all wonderful. My favorite is the matzo ball soup.
And you can top it all off (if you can...) with any dessert from the bakery (or get it to go).
They are close to the Los Alamitos Air Force Base and the Los Alamitos Horse Racing Track, so it tends to be very busy.
Service is great, big servings which are great to share and nice decor.
Can’t go wrong here. Easily the best Deli in Orange County.
