Relaxed and casual this walk up counter offers good Mexican food at fair prices and the Sangria isn’t bad either! Nothing out of this world but simple and tasty eats at a price that doesn’t leave me weeping out of poverty of the pocket or the stomach.
We made a planned trip here after a few recommendations and although the freshness of the ingredients could be elevated our shared Guaco Loco with Chipotle Chicken, Queso Loco with Beans, and Rice and Bean Burrito Grande were all satisfying for our growing hunger. (A Taco with Loco in the name signifies that it is a hard shell taco wrapped in a soft shell with the given filling.) The Guaco Loco was great, the chicken had a full bodied Chipotle flavor accompanied perfectly by the contents of the taco (aided, I may add, by the hot sauce we requested after the first bite for the lack of the eye tearing/running of the nose) but the Queso Loco was nothing notable in the flavor department and merely an accompaniment. The Burrito was tasty and a nice amount of food but again the rice/beans at San Loco are unexciting. The meal was accompanied by a pitcher of Sangria (2 people/3.5 glasses each) which washed down all the extra hot sauce we could muster with ease and delicious wine soaked fruit wedges. Served in ball jars the charm is easy going and allows one to sit back and savor the entire experience from the colorful lanterns floating above your head to the remnants of your meal below.
Price wise the food is very reasonable, the sangria was our bank breaker at $22 for the pitcher or around $3-3.5 a glass which beats the $6 by the jar. All in all it was a good meal, spent gazing into each other’s eyes and disappearing into the Loconess.
