good to know
The room is so warm and inviting, kind of like an upscale diner, and the windows overlook the highway (albeit a lovely one due to the vineyards).
Recommended: salads, pork chop with mustard sauce, grilled rabbit, hanger steak, onion ring starter, burgers, crispy calamari, seared Ahi tuna, quail, fruit crumbles, lemon-lime meringue pie, Pinot Noir soda
Portions are generous.Dinner comes with hot, fresh sourdough bread
Salad greens which come from the garden in back of the restaurant are absolutely pristine in the quality and dressed to precision. Chicken is free-range.
The rabbit is truly amazing, scented with oregano, in a sauce with a touch of vanilla giving a sweet undertone. It is whimsically served with baby carrots,
The seared ahi tuna sandwich with basil aioli is meltingly tender,
The Niman Ranch cheese buger is juicy and beefy,
Stuffed quail with wild mushroom tamale and celery root slaw is also a hit.
The crispy calamari with curried slaw is light & refreshing and would make a great lighter entre.
The hanger steak is buttery soft, served with excellent mashed potatoes.
Ingredients are flexible and fluid it seems, at the whim of the kitchen.
The wine list is interesting. Pinot Noir soda tasted like grape juice for adults, quite tasty!
Mustards remains a very solid, reliable spot.
The few complaints are that it has had its ups and downs, has seen better days and to some it’s sort of passe.
It may not be quite as adventurous as some places in the valley, but you could do much, much worse than Mustards. The food and service are good. It remains popular so reservations are advised.
