Whole Foods is infuriating: they have such good-quality beef, but it's butchered by hacks (hahaha). I've gotten bone-in ribeyes that looked good in the case, then realized upon inspection at home that they're 1 1/2" on the bone side, and half that thickness on the other. Never again. It opened tonight, and four pickle vendors (Rick's Picks, Brooklyn Brine, Sourpuss and McClure's) set up tables and offered samples. Sprout Creek Farm was also on hand with cheeses. And Captain Lawrence Brewing Company not only had three beers to taste, but also gave out free pint glasses! I was there too, naturally, since pickles, cheese and beer are three of my major food groups. I was most impressed with Rick's beets, Sourpuss' okra and classic cucumber pickles, and Brooklyn Brine's Damn Spicy pickles. Captain Lawrence's IPA and Sprout Creek's Eden and Sophie cheese were my non-pickle favorites. Here are some pictures of the scene:-COLLAPSE / REPLY
