good to know

CLOSED SUMMER 2009.

I went to try this place out yesterday for the “pay as you wish” Tuesday special. I was unimpressed. The atmosphere was fine. The food portions were tiny. I have not been there before this to compare the portions on a regular pay day.
My coffee was excellent. The Chai was way too sweet for my “non-sweet tooth” tastes. My friend had a green apple/ginger infusion that was very good. I ordered the daily special. It was eggplant parm the size of a two inch square by 1/2 inch tall with a glob of cheese. About six dime size pieces of zucchini and some rice. It came with a small side of coleslaw. Everything tasted O.K. and seemed to be low salt. My friend had a salad and Nachos that looked O.K. I tried her Rainbow vegetables. It was mostly onions with bok choy and red and green peppers. I consider those items condiments not vegetables. It would have been great to see some kale, broccoli, or even a bit of spinach. The flavors were good. The special came with a cup of sweet potato soup which was the best item of all the things that I tried. I had the apple pie for desert. I had asked for it cold because I don’t eat microwaved food. The pie arrived hot and very sad looking. All wilted and collapsed. Microwaved? The flavors were good but it was really awful to look at. The waitress was shocked when we paid more than the expected $5. I would like to support a healthy restaurant and hope that this one gets its act together. As one of the recently unemployed, I think I’ll stick to my own home cooking.
