I read about the LA Times reviewer having one of her favorite meals of 2009 at Cut and remembered I had enjoyed this restaurant years ago. Made a reservation and was appalled. Made a reservation and was appalled. Steaks were flavorless, except the one that was requested with caramelized onions thiking they would come on the side and instead were dumped on top therefore permeating the steak with their flavor. I had hands down the worst fish I have ever had in the entire world. Whole seabass, cooked until it was so mushy and flavorless that it even looked unappealing. This was truly awful. The donuts served for dessert were so undercooked and horribly made that they were simply some ort of undercooked dough. Horrid. I can't think of what could have happened to this restaurant. Service was ok until they gave up. First part of service seemed to have a different wait person than second part. And may I say that the music and the playlist seems to be competing with Mario Batali's playlists for restaurant killers. I do love the Rolling Stones, do I want to eat steak while their music is being blasted from the speakers? No, when I listen to them I do not want to think of them as background music, no matter how loud. What is the point? Prevent conversation between guests? Identify the restaurant as a throwback to the remote 70;s and 60/s (oh yes we did have The Animals playing also) Totally mystified as to what their point of view about the music is. I was probably one of the few people there of the era (half of them would have been to old and the other half obvlious) and I am in my fifties. Am I missign something about what is hip today? In any case, dismal and incredibly expensive experience. Never going back-COLLAPSE (by croquembouche, created January 15, 2010)
