I've never done the pre-theater menu, but the regular menu contains a fairly long list of fish and seafood which are simply-prepared, i.e., grilled, roasted, a la plancha, etc. I do not consider them to be "dumbed down." Quite the contrary. The quality of the fish and seafood at Oceana is extremely high, and the kitchen does an expert job with preparation. Also, there are options for sauces. I...+READ

Quite the contrary. The quality of the fish and seafood at Oceana is extremely high, and the kitchen does an expert job with preparation. Also, there are options for sauces. I presume that would be the case with the pre-theater menu, but you could call and ask. However, if you feel you will not be satisfied, and you don't want to do the regular menu, which does include dishes with plated accompaniments (See "Main Courses"), but which are more expensive, then perhaps you should consider choosing another restaurant.

Oceana is our favorite fish/seafood restaurant. The food is delicious, service is friendly and attentive, and the ambiance is very pleasant. Dinner service starts a 5 p.m., and the pre-theater menu is available at that time. To make a 7 p.m. curtain, I would book at 5. Make sure to tell your server that you will be seeing a show (though they are more than likely to ask), and they will make sure...+READ

Make sure to tell your server that you will be seeing a show (though they are more than likely to ask), and they will make sure to get you out in time. If you prefer to have a more relaxed and leisurely meal, you can dine at Oceana after the show. That same menu is also available post-theater.

Oceana is our favorite seafood restaurant. The cuisine is superb, service is friendly and attentive, and the dining room has very pleasant ambiance. It would have to be your "pricey" meal because it will not meet your $25pp (for food only?) budget. But then, none of the best seafood restaurants would fit that budget either.

It would also be helpful to know their cuisine preferences. Bu that said,
Oceana, our favorite fish/seafood restaurant, is on 49th St., off the corner of 6th. (The theater is further west on 49th.) Oceana is our favorite fish/seafood restaurant. The food is always delicious, and servers are very cordial and attentive. I agree with rrems that it is not at all stuffy. The space is huge, and the restaurant does a much more brisk lunch business, i.e., always full up, than at dinner when even on the weekends, many tables remain unoccupied. I highly recommend Oceana, our favorite fish/seafood restaurant. Superb food, stellar service, and very pleasant ambiance. It is definitely not necessary to restrict yourself to the lounge if you are wearing jeans as they are perfectly acceptable in the dining room. There is also a very nice patio if you want to dine al fresco.
