The place was pretty busy with my friend's friends quizing the owner on obscure wine facts, I didn't stay very long but returned the following Tues to use the internet and down a glass of wine. The buzz was very different with couples quietly chatting over flights of wine and cheese, I almost felt silly not having my GF with me.
After a quick look at the Ontario dominated wine menu the owner (I'm terrible with names) helped me pick a Malbec to satisfy my tannic addiction. I decided to skip the cheese and order what turned out to be one of the best duck confits I've ever had. Unfortunately it came with a side of salad (I not a big salad eater) apparently the side rotates. Oh well.
I grabbed another glass of wine and as I was pleasantly surprised with the first. I never knew Ontario reds could be of any interest. The owner described the process used in great detail, which I promptly forgot. I'll certainly be back, and next time with my cheese loving girlfriend.-COLLAPSE
»Unpretentious cafe with very pretentious owner!
The wine is good and so is the cheese, but forget about the food. The owner is border line obnoxious. So what if the place IS trendy- that's only for now. The food is overpriced, the service snobbish and the portions tiny with a big price tag. Not good value and I don’t enjoy paying for attitude.
My favourite Parkdale cafe! Small cafe with local artwork. It's great for a small group or couple. Service is a little slow if it's busy, but always friendly, super-informative and outstanding once you have the attention. To be fair I have yet to go for dinner, I've been for wine tastings (many local options), cheese plates and lots and lots of coffee and desert. To be fair I have yet to go for dinner, I've been for wine tastings (many local options), cheese plates and lots and lots of coffee and desert. Many of the ingredients are local, those that are not local are often fair trade and organic. The chocolate deserts named after Cthulhu demons are each better than the last (yes I've tried them all now). Also, be sure to give the mead a try.-COLLAPSE
