good to know

Doña María usually has arepas con queso (cheese) and arepas de chócolo (fresh corn). The arepa con queso is the way to go if you want melting cheese and buttery, salty all-around goodness. Arepas de chócolo are sweeter, made out of yellow corn, and also come with a slice of cheese. There are many kinds of arepas all over Colombia and Venezuela, so please bear in mind that Doña María makes only these two types.

Her Twitter feed and My Space page usually have a forecast regarding the chances of her being out at her usual stomping grounds.

On my way back from dinner in flushing I stopped at 82nd. Had no idea it was such a crapshoot to find her, but she was there. I ordered an arepa details queso. Surprised at how sweet it was. I found the OPs description to be quite accurate. Tasty enough, and an interesting diversion, but I wasn't bowled over. Glad to have had the experience...+READ

Glad to have had the experience though, and on my next visit to flushing I will go again to try the choclo arepa.
