good to know

The restaurant bills itself as fusion, but it is mostly Yucatecan cuisine beautifully presented.

The name was originally Popol Vuh, then Chichen Itza. The cook and food have been the same all along, just trademark issues or the like.

The owners, are Carlos and Delmy Ruiz. Delmy is from the Yucatan. Carlos is from Durango and cooked at Bistro Clovis, a French restaurant.

San Francisco Magazine review

The actual name is Poc-Chuc but too many duplicate Place records were getting created.

Regarding La Taquaria, just note that it is primarliy a taco/burrito place. My favorite in the City for that kind of food, although I find it as a quick lunch type of spot..

However when I have tried Mexican food in LA the restauarants have been more sitdown type places with more varied menus. If that is more in line with what you would like to compare SF mexican food, you may wish to consider...+READ

However when I have tried Mexican food in LA the restauarants have been more sitdown type places with more varied menus. If that is more in line with what you would like to compare SF mexican food, you may wish to consider the relatevely cheap Poc Chuc which has some outstanding home cooked, soul infused mayan dishes.-COLLAPSE

The service was friendly and efficient and the price was extremely reasonable.-COLLAPSE (by delaney88, created July 10, 2011)

I really love the Escabeche de Pavo (Turkey Stew). It's one of those earthy, hearty dishes that make you feel if you were raised on it it (I wasn't), you would be taken home again. I don't know if that makes much sense, but it's a dish I wouldn't eat every day, but get cravings for it every month or so. REPLY (79 Replies) (by Civil Bear, created February 22, 2010)
