I've been in the mood for some steak frites for about a month now, and hadn't managed to get out to a reliable place, so I figured I'd give this local bistro another try. But, alas. The first thing I noticed is that their alcohol selection was pretty lackluster - no Belgian beer (or anything else that looked particularly good with steak), and a cheap wine list with generic descriptions. We ordered the $33 bottle of cabernet (which means that it's really, what, a $10 bottle) and were pretty put off.
They were having a special, described as "rib-eye steak with fries." Perfect, right? The server neglected to mention that it would be drowned in a gloppy red-wine reduction with onions. And, it was not cooked correctly. The steak seemed a little cheap, and with the thick sauce you couldn't see how it was trimmed, so a lot of bites were just mouthfuls of chewy fat.
