»MIchael's Genuine has gone way downhill
As someone who has been at the restaurant many times, I am sad to report it has really gone downhill and I will not return. First, we were there to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary which was mentioned to the reservation staff. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the new host who cannot over himself and his worthless South Beach attitude. He wanted us to sit outside in the 90 plus degree weather with high humidity and I refused. He rudely indicated I did not request inside and pointed with his glasses literally that we should wait by the bar. We finally got seated to a table that was tiny and the server was horrible throughout. Not one of the typical excellent Michael's waitstaff (young asian man, tall Native American or african american female). She disappeared most of the meal and did not mention our anniversary once. The food was good. After not having our anniversary mentioned to the tall host he simply shrugged and could not care less. I think the restaurant is really suffering with all of the staff in the islands and until Chef Michael and the regular crew are back, I will not be there. It was bad bad bad.-COLLAPSE

I had been hoping to go to Michael's for a very long time. Don't even try going without a reservation. Our first try to this restaurant was a total disaster as the hostess was very rude because we didn't have a reservation. I made a reservation a week in advance to celebrate my graduation with my family. Our waiter was OK, but was missing for most of the meal. Of course I ordered the whole chicken that takes an hour to prepare, which our waiter did forewarn us. The wait wasn't that bad but the chicken wasn't that great. The chairs were super hard and uncomfortable after waiting for an hour, so bad that my dad complained to the waiter who brought him some napkins to sit on, and told us that it was a common complaint. For the money spent here you can get a much better experience at Houstons in the Gables or Ft Lauderdale.-COLLAPSE
»This is really good food.
My wife and I are food snobs. This place was recommended here on Chowhound. The food is excellent. Really really amazing and organic on top of that. Let me reiterate, we are food snobs, and we think most of you have no idea what you are talking about. This place is good. Dont let the prices on the menu fool you. The brunch portions are small. Let me reiterate, we are food snobs, and we think most of you have no idea what you are talking about. This place is good. Dont let the prices on the menu fool you. The brunch portions are small. Its kinda like a bunch of appetizers. We had everything below and it cost $50 including the tip. We had enough to eat but we ate everything. No oversized portion. I recommend this place 100%
We had the:
Crispy Rice Cake
Kimchi Benedict
Crispy Pig Ears
Homemade Rosemary Crumpet
Cimmanon Roll
To Drink Melon Blend and a Coffee.-COLLAPSE
So we ate at Michael's Genuine in the Design District. Thanks drtodd for the excellent recommendation. Everything was very good. We were early and ate at the bar. The coctails were fantastic. Manhattan with rosemary infused cherry--almost meaty. But in a good way.
The duck confit was heaven--whipped cauliflower acted as a ethereal mashed potato to balance the rich , flavorful duck.

My friend loved the wood-grilled octopus.
Wonderful.-COLLAPSE
