Second Levain Bakery. I mail their chocolate chip-walnut cookies to an addicted friend once in a while, and the cookies hold up well in transit. It's a little pricey when you mail-order directly from them, but you may find them worthy.
Also second Russ & Daughters - order a variety of herrings and smoked salmon and you'll be a very happy man for days/weeks! (depending on your restraint)
