My one trip there was ages ago, but they had plenty of vegetarian options. The stuffed artichoke isn't one of them. iirc, there was lots of pancetta amidst the bread crumbs, cheese and other assorted deliciousness. REPLY (7 Replies) (by rose water, created October 24, 2011)

I'm a huge fan of Dominick's. I've been going for 20 years so I'm a bit biased, but it is just such a fun place to eat (as long as the lines aren't too bad). Southern Italian at its finest and the most fun if you order family style. The standouts are the stuffed artichoke, linguine calamari, chicken scarpariello, and the stuffed peppers. If your in the 'hood early enough check out some of the Italian markets if for nothing but to experience the aroma of a room of drying salami. Zero Otto Nove makes a good pie, but really won't provide the local Italian-American experience as Dominicks'. I think my beef with the upscale wanna be Neopolitan pizzerias is that they are trying to copy a Napoli pizza, not represent the food culture of NY itself. While I do enjoy the change of pace once in a while, in my mind the NY style is where it's at anyway.-COLLAPSE

»A big disappointment

I'd been led to believe that this would be a nicely solid family Italian restaurant -- nothing fancy, but good food. Honestly, a high school cafeteria could produce food as good or better than we ate. Honestly, a high school cafeteria could produce food as good or better than we ate. Overly breaded clams without a hint of garlic despite the fact that I specifically asked for a garlicky appetizer (when there are no menus, I expect the servers to listen carefully to what's requested) and pasta swimming in oil with very little flavor led to a disappointing (at best) meal. It was frighteningly hot (in April -- not during a heat wave -- it was in the 50s outside) and, of course, crowded. So two of us split a clam appetizer, split a pasta entree and had two glasses of wine and the bill was $47. A rip-off to boot. You'd be better off to shop in the neighborhood for food and make it at home.-COLLAPSE (by kskinct, created April 10, 2010)
