don't think spicy and tasty uses it in their chili noodles, shrimp with black bean and pepper, or shrimp with spicy turnups, or sesame noodles, try one of these and see if you do ok with it--and also if you want thai, I know definitely that I am thai in sunnyside will adjust anything for dietary reasons, the owner is amazing about that... Spicy and Tasty is excellent and inexpensive for lunch.

The fish fillet gung bao style is delicious.

get the tofu and celery cold app, along with whatever else you order. This is the only sichuan place i've been to that does this dish really really well. (most don't do it at all.) don't worry about eating all or even most of it. take it home and you'll find yourself irresistibly drawn to your fridge tomorrow, sneaking bites all day. Spicy and tasty is great for both, and make a reservation so you get an upstairs round table--there is a thread for spicy and tasty somewhere, do a search, but there was an extensive discussion about non spicy dishes to order there with a mixed group...my recommendations :

Spicy and tasty is great for both, and make a reservation so you get an upstairs round table--there is a thread for spicy and tasty somewhere, do a search, but there was an extensive discussion about non spicy dishes to order there with a mixed group...my recommendations :
Shrimp with turnips (this is very spicy but excellent)-you can also get it with squid but I think it's better this way...shrimp with leeks is completely not spicy and safe, clams with black bean, not spicy, safe, shrimp or tilapi with black bean (served on bed spinach) not spicy safe--cold red chili noodles very spicy, but great---sesame noodles (no meat)--not spicy, and great....lots of other cold appetizers that are not spicy either....watercress, not spicy---as far as the other dishes, many people like smoked duck, etc....look through that thread and see what appeals to you, but food wise and atmosphere wise, and parking wise, (municipal down block), spicy and tasty is a good bet...they got a B inspection just so you know, but I've eaten there for years and have never been sick--and it looks clean---there are many worse offenders in Flushing for sure---but I am very particular about restaurant cleanliness, but I let them slide, only from my personal experience.....-COLLAPSE

»Saturday Night Surprise

3 stars

Have been a regular at Spicy and Tasty for many years but was very disappointed when we brought some Australian friends for dinner on Saturday night. Overall quality of food was much below previous standards, even noodles in chili oil were sub-par. Is this result of new management. Please report on visits and suggest options in Flushing or Queens. »Spicy & Tasty -- disappointing dinner

I saw from relatively recent posts that a lot of people are still happy with S&T, but there are also enough negative comments to make me think that our experience tonight was not an anomaly, but rather a confirmation of a downhill trend.

I saw from relatively recent posts that a lot of people are still happy with S&T, but there are also enough negative comments to make me think that our experience tonight was not an anomaly, but rather a confirmation of a downhill trend.

We've been eating at S&T a long time, going back to the days when it was on Roosevelt, but hadn't been there in more than a year. Instead we've mostly been going to the Szechuan Gourmets in Flushing & Manhattan.

We got there tonight at 9 and had no trouble getting a table -- we were a bit surprised, rarely having gotten in there without something of a wait, but we figured maybe it was due to the freezing weather. The place never really filled up, kind of surprising on a Saturday night. In my experience, popular places in Flushing are packed until quite late in the evening.

We ordered a number of dishes we've had twice or more in the past, and were roundly underwhelmed. The Dan Dan noodles were completely devoid of heat; their sauce was kind of murky and brown, very salty. The dried bean curd w/ celery had a mild ma la tingle, nothing like that dish has been in the past. The double-cooked pork had very little heat, the pork was pretty tough (I know, I know, it's been cooked twice, what do I expect?) and the leeks the best thing about the dish. The sauteed pea shoots were just ok, but I'll chalk that up to the season, not the cook.

It wasn't terrible food, but not up to their past standard, which was at times transcendant. Sad to say, but with so many excellent alternatives, I don't think we'll go back anytime soon.-COLLAPSE
