Thanks so much. SO had a delicious dinner at Ouest. Had the house smoked sturgeon with poached egg, stuffed quail with French green lentils and a side of polenta (said the polenta was some of the best he's had). They also had chicken. Cheesecake for dessert.

Appreciate the additional recs for the future.

This is our 4th visit to Ouest and I hope I remember to not go back. I always get suckered in by the high Zagat ratings. Dinner for 2 was $240 with tip for one mid-range single malt, one $66 bottle of a decent French red, one shared appetizer, 2 entrees and 2 espressos. Not very high for a mid range Manhattan restaurant but I expect much better service. Waiter ranged from rude to inattentive. He only once remembered to pour more wine. He kept excusing himself each time we asked questions while trying to decide what to order. Excellent appetizer of delicious bone marrow could not make up for the off service. Entrees were good, but not good enough to bring us back when there is so much competition in that price range. My husband had the pork tenderloin with pork belly. Pork belly had almost the taste of good Chinese ribs and the pork was flavorful and moist. My rabit was not quite tender enough and a little bland. It was served in a mushroom jus, but I think rabit is too mild for such a delicate preparation. It needed a little more robust sauce. Sounds contradictory, but it was overpowered by a too rich for my taste angel hair pasta.-COLLAPSE (by middleagedfoodie, created November 21, 2010)

The poached egg over smoked duck breast with frisee is a fantastic appetizer. But for main courses - they have the BEST grilled pork chop in the city. And if you are drinking, their martinis and fresh margaritas are incomparable. REPLY (5 Replies) (by mmann15, created November 12, 2009)
