good to know
Basic deli fare. Naturally raised meats are used like Diestal turkey, Niman Ranch beef and organic chopped liver.
Acme bakes a special NY rye for Saul’s. Other items with positive mentions are the beet horseradish and herring.
On the two weekends before Chanukah there is an outdoor stand selling jelly donuts (sufganiyot). and lattkes hot from a pot of oil.

I wonder whether Saul's sells their half-sours by the jar. They fit the "cucumbers who [have] died and gone to heaven." description pretty well. REPLY (31 Replies)
»What's going on at Saul's?
Went there last night.
They were out of corned beef.
They are now charging for pickles.
I ordered my pastrami "jucy" and it was almost totally devoid of fat; I mean, really dry.
A friend we went with ordered the chicken plate and got one tiny half breast. It was so small that he complained and they brought him a leg to go with it. (He said the chicken tasted great.)

FWIW, I'm originally from NY and I love Saul's. Last time in NY, a couple of years ago, we went to Katz's and it was nowhere near as good any longer. The meat was dry and fairly tasteless whereas I always look forward to Saul's version of it. REPLY (22 Replies)

Love the homemade sodas including a celery soda that tastes like slightly sweet fresh celery, far better than Dr. Brown's. »Not Jewish enough!
Looking for beef brisket at saul's but instead got a roast beef sandwich--yuk! No brisket in site--oh how I miss Langer's of LA!
