good to know

Convenient to Ashby BART, I-80, Ashby or Alcatraz Ave, and Shattuck Ave, there is plenty of parking.

All the ingredients are high-quality.

Recommended: Almond Tea Cake, which is moist, buttery, and nutty ($0.75); scones (especially the ginger scones, which have a slight “snap” to them as you bite); cookies (including bar cookies such as brownies and blondies, variations on chocolate chip cookies, and macaroons); chocolate Pave` cake; Chocolate Cream Pie (recently voted Best of the East Bay by Diablo Magazine (Nov. 2007))

They also serve Chai, an assortment of coffee drinks and teas, and bake several pies at the holidays. There is a variety of seating, from sidewalk tables (complete with a water bowl for your pet), to individual tables, to big diner-style tables that allow large groups to gather.

The owner is a Parisian-trained baker. Staff is friendly, knows how to properly wait on the long lines that are bound to form, and keeps things humming.

Nice staff! Great food. They make the best ginger cookies ever!
My chocolate lab Simon loves their dog biscuits. Simon says "5 paws!"
