Garlic Bread Recipe

Garlic Bread
Difficulty: Easy | Total Time: | Makes: 8 servings

No Italian-American meal seems complete unless there’s a basket of garlic bread on the table. A simple mixture of butter, garlic, parsley, and salt is spread onto Italian or French bread, then the bread is baked until toasted and crispy. This comforting favorite is a classic companion to Spaghetti and Meatballs, but it would also be great alongside CHOW’s Chicken Parmesan Meatloaf Muffins.

INGREDIENTS
  • 8 tablespoons unsalted butter (1 stick), at room temperature
  • 2 medium garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh Italian parsley leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 loaf Italian or French bread (about 1 pound), cut in half horizontally
INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Heat the oven to 425°F and arrange a rack in the middle. Line a baking sheet with foil; set aside.
  2. Place the butter, garlic, parsley, and salt in a medium bowl and mash with the back of a spoon or a rubber spatula until smooth and combined.
  3. Place the bread cut-side up on the baking sheet. Spread the butter mixture in an even layer on the cut sides of the bread. Bake until the bread is golden brown on top, about 15 minutes.
  4. Remove the bread to a cutting board. Let cool for 5 minutes before slicing. Serve warm.

Sounds delicious..I melt the cube(or 2) of butter in the skillet, press the(2-4 cloves) garlic in a press into the butter, turn off fire from skillet add chopped flat leaf parsely if desire, then press cut bread into skillet of melted garlic butter, add grated parm cheese & place under broiler or toaster oven... YUMMMMM

an Italain chef taught me: the hotter the oven the better...500 degrees makes the outside of the bread crisp but leaves the inside fluffy, personally I would double or triple the number of cloves and only use local garlic! www.stonesoupfarms.ca

Nice KaimukiMan! Yeah hounds have been snarkier and more dismissive of others lately. There is one thread I'm following where one dude just keeps jumping in to make fun of others. I was kind of surprised. Maybe something in the air? But yeah, I appreciate the basic recipes as well.

I'm so glad not to see sarcastic comments about how to make garlic bread. I made some a couple of weeks ago and one of my friends was amazed. He had never seen garlic bread that didn't come 'pre buttered' from the store. Thought there was some magic ingredient. He was so excited he went home and made a batch the next night. He got the ultimate compliment from his son who told him "this is better than the stuff from Safeway!"
