California Oki Burger Recipe

By mar52

This is a remake of a burger I ate in El Reno, NV… the home of the Onion Burger. I Californiaized it.

INGREDIENTS
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 quarter pound ground sirloin
  • 2/3 cup thinly sliced onions... real thin
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • one hamburger bun
  • 1 tablespoon Sriacha Sauce
  • 1 tablespoon orange marmelade
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 slice American cheese
  • 1 handful shredded lettuce
  • 2 slices fresh tomato
  • pickle slices to garnish
INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Heat a cast iron pan with the 2 tablespoon vegetable oil.
  2. smash theburger patty on to a hot cast iron pan and smash the thinly sliced onions into the top of it.
  3. Cook a minute to set the burger.
  4. Mash the onions again in to the burger and flip it on to the onions. Let them cook until golden brown.
  5. Flip back on to the burger side to finish the burger to you liking. Salt and pepper to taste at this point.
  6. Flip one last time back on to the onion to cook them so that some are almost black and crisp, but not burned. Toast the bun in the same skillet at this point making sure it’s a little crispy.
  7. In a small bowl mix the Sriacha Sauce, Orange Marmelade and honey. Slather on to the bottom of the bun.
  8. Top with the onion burger, (onions up) your slice of American Cheese, tomatoes and bun top. Garnish burger or plate with thin pickle slices and…

Enjoy!
