Guinness Cream Soda Recipe

Guinness Cream Soda
Difficulty: Easy | Total Time: | Makes: About 6 servings

The classic, nonalcoholic version of a cream soda contains club soda, cream, and usually vanilla syrup. Our boozy version uses vanilla and ginger liqueurs instead of syrup and the creamy froth of Guinness stout instead of cream to take this drink from soda fountain to bar top.

What to buy: Domaine de Canton is a ginger-flavored liqueur that can be found at specialty liquor stores.

Navan vanilla liqueur is a vanilla-infused Cognac made by Grand Marnier. It can be found at high-end liquor stores or online.

We preferred the creamy head attained with canned Guinness Draught versus the bottled variety.

Game plan: If you’re bringing this drink to a tailgate or party, mix the ginger and vanilla liqueurs together and keep chilled. Add the cold club soda and beer when ready to serve.

This drink was featured as part of our beer cocktails recipe slideshow.

INGREDIENTS
  • 6 ounces Domaine de Canton ginger liqueur, chilled
  • 6 ounces Navan vanilla liqueur, chilled
  • 3 (12-ounce) cans club soda, chilled
  • 3 (14.9-ounce) cans Guinness Draught, chilled
INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Place the ginger and vanilla liqueurs in a (6-cup) pitcher and stir to combine. Add the club soda and stir gently to combine.
  2. To serve, fill a chilled pint glass halfway with the club soda mixture. Holding a spoon over the glass, slowly pour the Guinness over the back of the spoon until the glass is full. Stir gently if desired and serve immediately.

I do not know what part of the US fledflew lives in, but Navan is available throughout Virginia. Meeukow vanilla cognac would be an excellent substitute, however....

Nice. 6 reviews, none by a person who has made or tasted this drink. I'm giving 5 stars in order to balance out the pre-judgement.

I don't know about the rest of you, but this sounds like heaven in a "chilled pint glass". Yum!

I know this is a bit off topic but... Notes of banana and vanilla off-putting in beer? Most bourbon barrel aged beers have a large vanilla presence. Not to mention vanilla bean porters or stouts. There's usually a heavy banana character to many witbeers and saisons, which are fairly popular styles.. Did anyone actually try this recipe?

Can't help but feel that the Domaine de Canton ginger liqueur and club soda could be replaced with a simple ginger beer.. less pretentious too... might give it a go..

As a former brew-pub brewer, I learned early on that certain flavors or notes are generally undesirable in beer. Whether there by intention or inadvertently through a lack of disciplined sanitation some flavors should be avoided. Flavors (or notes) of banana, vanilla, butter, butterscotch, apple, pineapple while yummy in some beverages will taste off in most beers. I suppose a skillful and finessed master brewer could compose a perfect grain-bill to accommodate one of those flavors, but this is a tall order. I believe a drinkable vanilla beer is not something that’s easily created from-the-hip. Would you order a second one?

  • I'm a big Guinness fan, so forgive me if I say "yuck"... Ginger and Guinness?? I used to occasionally drink "Poor Man's Black Velvet" in England when I was younger (that's half draught guinness and half (hard) cider such as Woodpecker... that's about my limit...
