Snakebite Recipe

Snakebite
Difficulty: Easy | Total Time: | Makes: 1 drink

A pint of this beer cocktail goes down so easily that some bartenders and pubs in the UK refuse to make it. Rumor has it that even former president Bill Clinton was denied at an English pub when he tried to order one with his lunch. The best thing about making a Snakebite yourself is that no one is going to stop you from having another. But proceed with caution.

This drink was featured as part of our Beer Cocktail Recipes recipe gallery.

INGREDIENTS
  • 8 ounces hard cider, chilled
  • 8 ounces lager, chilled
  • 1/4 ounce black currant liqueur (a.k.a. crème de cassis, optional)
INSTRUCTIONS
Pour the cider and beer into a chilled glass, layering the lager on top of the cider if desired by holding a spoon over the glass and slowly pouring the lager over the back of the spoon. Top with the blackcurrant liqueur, if using.

The first drink i was ever sick on as a teenager.

  • Snakebites a bit of a regional thing too. At home it was made differently to where i went to uni and most of my friends had variations on it! If your brave try the Irish Snakebite which is cider, Guinness and black.

  • I am from the UK where this "classy cocktail" is most commonly associated with football hooligans and skinheads. You drink Snakebites to get really drunk and then engage in a bit of the old ultra violence. It's not really all that classy despite being English.
