Old-Fashioned Whiskey Cocktail Recipe

Old-Fashioned Whiskey Cocktail
Difficulty: Easy | Total Time: | Active Time: | Makes: 1 drink

The Old Fashioned is a variation on the classic whiskey cocktail. We like ours with a slice of orange rind muddled with sugar and water. For less orange flavor, simply garnish with the orange rind; for more, muddle with a full slice of orange and rind.

This recipe was featured as part of our New Year’s Eve cocktails.

  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon water
  • 2 dashes angostura bitters
  • 1 slice orange rind
  • Ice
  • 2 ounces rye whiskey or bourbon
  • 1 maraschino cherry
In an Old Fashioned glass, muddle the sugar, water, bitters, and orange rind together until the sugar has dissolved. Fill the glass with ice, add the whiskey or bourbon, and garnish with the cherry. Serve with a cocktail straw.
